Choose clothing for sports and gym

More and more people of all ages are dedicating a few hours of their time to sport and the increasing number of gyms is proof of this. Gymnasiums have also adapted to this new boom, expanding their services, increasing spaces and offering new possibilities, such as aerobics courses, spinning, step, fitboxing and many others. After all, man can hardly remain without exercise and gyms are places frequented since the times of the ancient Greeks and Romans where the military, the Ephebians and ordinary people dedicated themselves to the cult of the body.

Today this passion for sport cannot ignore the dictates of fashion and there are many people who want to be able to dress ‘well’ even in the gym or while practicing sport. And this is also because very often clothes for sports are used for less demanding daily outings, and this aspect is becoming increasingly important in the major manufacturers of sportswear. Or, maybe you need some volleyball shoes for hitters directly?

There are some elements that must be absolutely taken into account when buying sports and gym clothes. These are not in every way ironclad rules, they are more than anything else directives dictated primarily by common sense and common knowledge in this area, and must obviously be adapted to personal inclinations, to the habits of everyone in terms of sport and any special needs.

When choosing sports and gym clothes, always remember that the first of the many needs of those who are going to practice any kind of sport is, of course, the comfort of the clothes they wear. That they should not be too tight so as to prevent certain types of movement or block the circulation of blood, nor too wide as they could impede movement or otherwise be an obstacle in the performance of certain activities. Also banned rigid seams and types of fabric that are not able to follow the natural movement of the body, although aesthetically they could be more attractive than normal and timeless cotton.

Since we are in the sports field it is useless to emphasize that any sporting activity in most cases will require us a certain physical effort, the consequence of which will be first of all a considerable increase in sweating. For this reason it is of fundamental importance to choose sports and gym clothing that is made of absorbent fabric and above all with high breathability, that do not hinder the work of perspiration of the skin and ensure in every way a pleasant feeling of cleanliness and freshness. This puts cotton, goretek and microfibers at the first place among the fabrics dedicated to sport, certainly to be preferred to any type of synthetic fiber. These synthetic fabrics in fact are able to perform a certain control on sweat but are often the cause of bad odors, as well as the onset of infections, allergies and dermatitis, and often also responsible for the spread of bacteria.

Since physical activity is usually not carried out with the same intensity during its course, it is advisable to choose sports and gym clothing so that you can dress in layers, so that you can adapt it to the effort. Usually, in fact, you start with a light warm-up activity, then the pace increases until you reach the maximum effort, and then slowly return to a situation of normality that is followed in most cases by muscle stretching and stretching exercises. And each of these moments needs a different type of clothing.

The warm-up and stretching phase, in fact, need heavier clothing, perhaps long sleeves, to allow the body to maintain a stable temperature that would tend to drop, while in the phase of maximum effort is better to wear light clothing with short legs and short sleeves, so as not to hinder movements and to allow maximum breathability of the skin. For this reason, it is advisable to dress in layers, so that you can remove or put back with comfort the heavier clothing, both to perform more freely the physical activity and to avoid injuries or temperature changes that could have a negative effect on the body, dragging for days.

Given the intense and repeated use that we make of sportswear, perhaps even exposing them to the air and weather, it is necessary that they are easily washable and do not need any special precautions. And since they also come into contact with sweat and the shared environments of gyms, it is advisable to wash them by adding special disinfectant and antibacterial solutions to the normal detergent.

The aesthetic characteristics of sportswear, for example the choice of color, are secondary to the functional characteristics we have just talked about, and the choice of color must be closely linked to other factors: a coloured sportswear must not lose its color when it comes into contact with sweat, and must pass strict laboratory tests that guarantee that it does not contain any harmful or harmful components.

The fact that the aesthetic characteristics of a sports garment are not the first thing you have to consider before buying it does not mean that you have to choose sports and gym clothing that is horrible or unsightly. Finding a running pants that is at the same time breathable, comfortable and that adapts pleasantly to the body shape will certainly give us more satisfaction than a pants equally breathable, equally comfortable, but that does not fit very well on us. Even in sport sometimes it is important to feel good about your appearance, also considering the fact that gyms are becoming more and more places to meet new people.

The clothing and accessories that we can equip ourselves with when we prepare to do physical activities vary depending on the sport you wish to practice, although there are items of clothing common to all sports and activities.

The underwear is the garment that is in direct contact with the body, so it should be selected carefully making sure that it has the proper characteristics to absorb the sweat that will be produced during the activity or sport you intend to perform. A good sportswear, therefore, must first of all be permeable, comfortable and practical, so that it does not hinder our movements during the sport.

Particularly important for women, in this regard, is the identification of the ideal bra: those born and designed for sport, in fact, ensure the best support for the breast thanks to the application of thicknesses and sponge padding. Even in the case of the bra, which must be chosen strictly without the underwire if it is intended for sports, it is important to make sure that it is made with a breathable fabric and that it does not have too many excessively rigid seams that could irritate the skin. As far as men are concerned, on the other hand, it is important that they choose the underwear fabric with particular care, both in case they prefer briefs and in case they prefer boxer shorts.

The shoe is an essential accessory for any sports activity (excluding water sports), whose choice depends very much on the type of activity you want to practice. The first rule of choosing the right shoe must be that of comfort and the right protection for our foot, especially in the case of sports where there is a lot of movement. A good shoe, in fact, helps to prevent possible and unwanted injuries, such as ankle injuries or sprains, which can put us out of action for months. High shoes with good ankle protection are also recommended in the case of gym sports such as step and aerobics, as well as it is recommended, if you practice spinning, to equip yourself with special mountain bike shoes.

When you are about to buy a sports shoe you must first of all evaluate the adaptation of the foot and the comfort of the shoe, avoiding to choose too narrow or too wide sizes, maybe in favor of a more aesthetically pleasing model: a mistake of this kind could prevent us from practicing quietly and force us to buy a new pair of shoes, so it is more convenient in terms of time and money to guess the right shoe at the first attempt, putting before all its comfort.

On the market there are socks created specifically for sport: these are sports socks mainly made of terry towelling, preferable to cotton because the latter is not as performing when it comes to absorbing sweat, exactly as in the case of wool or synthetic fibers.

There are practically countless pants dedicated to sport and gym, both in terms of models and fabrics. There are synthetics, sweatshirt, cotton, acetate and microfiber. The important thing in the case of buying a sports pants is that it has the right conformation so that it does not hinder or hinder the performance of the sport, regardless of whether they are long or short, stretch or normal. The important thing is that they are suitable for physical activity, that they are wide enough for free body sports, and narrow enough for example in the case of spinning or cycling (in the latter case they are usually equipped with a special padding that protects the buttocks from continuous contact with the seat).

Particularly fashionable in recent times, the fuseaux are widely used for the performance of the most diverse sports activities, both by women and men. And this is because their stretch fabric is particularly tight but without over-tightening and is ideal for performing many movements. There are many types and lengths, from the knee to the ankle, and practically all colors and especially for all pockets: in most cases they are cheaper than traditional pants.

Worn both by women and men, the tank top is an integral part of the sportswear of those who attend the gym, almost completely replacing the shirt both for practicality and aesthetic reasons. As for the other types of garments there are narrow and wide, with different types of fabrics, colors and patterns; practically all major sportswear brands include tank tops in their line of clothing.

The T-shirt is the garment that more than the others and for the longest time is identified with the sport activity in general. Immune to the variations and evolutions of fashion, the t-shirt always survives thanks to its practicality, its variety of fabrics and colors, its very competitive price and its great versatility, which makes it suitable for any sporting activity.

The sweatshirt is a fairly important garment in the outfit of a sportsman, mainly to preserve health by avoiding temperature changes and cooling. It is in fact used in a particular way during heating, stretching and defaticing, where the body temperature is very variable. In these cases it is preferable to choose a long sleeve model not too heavy, and then remove it during the next phases of training. You can easily find sweatshirts to match the pants of the suit, although you can buy them separately and match them as you like.

The headband is a real accessory particularly useful in case of sport, mainly for those who wear long hair: the headband allows you to keep it away from the forehead by absorbing part of the sweat produced by physical activity that can become very annoying if it ends up in the eyes. Very useful also in the winter season, the headband can protect your forehead and ears from the cold when you practice outdoor sports.

There are sports, such as volleyball and tennis, that see the cuffs depopulating, comfortable accessories that allow athletes to wipe off their sweat easily and immediately, without losing sight of what is happening on the court. They are usually made of polyester, terry cloth and cotton and are available in all colors.

Not all athletes wear gloves, although there are physical activities for which they are an indispensable accessory, such as working with equipment in the engine rooms, where there are plenty of dumbbells, tools and weights to grab. Gloves of this type are usually made of imitation leather to ensure maximum grip. Then there are sports, such as Fitboxe and Kickboxing, where the gloves become real padded and reinforced gloves, suitable for that type of activity. In the case of other sports, gloves are mainly an obstacle.

The leg warmers are a sports accessory made of wool, synthetic fiber or chenille that is worn on the lower leg when you are about to start a sporting activity that will then require some muscle effort: in this way the muscle will be kept warm even during the breaks between exercises, avoiding painful tears or other inconveniences. They are usually used in disciplines such as dance or artistic gymnastics and reached their maximum popularity years ago thanks to cult movies such as Flashdance and Saranno Famosi, so much so that they also became a trendy accessory that was used in everyday life and not only during sports activities.

Vests and light jackets are an accessory that does not make much sense to use in the gym but it becomes a great ally for those who practice outdoor sports such as running, jogging and any other activity during which you risk being exposed to cold air currents. Using this accessory will help preserve body temperature by preventing heat loss and protecting against the cold.

The towel is a recommended accessory for those who frequent gyms and tool rooms, indeed often the rules of these gyms prescribe it as mandatory, as it is not only used to wipe away sweat but also to isolate the body from the tools, mats and benches that are used by many people during a day, ensuring the highest possible hygiene.

The mat is an accessory that in most cases is made available by the gyms themselves to those who want to use it to perform abdominals or other exercises from the floor, although there are many people who choose to use a personal one. In case you decide to buy it, you must make sure that it is made of a resistant and easily washable, non-slip, light and soft material, so that it can be comfortably rolled up to carry it or to store it in your locker.
